Here you will see a guide on how to prepare yourself for moving to make the moving process as easy as possible for you and your family.
WHAT TO TAKE AND WHAT NOT TO TAKE: More weight, more volume = more money. Therefore, donate or sell everything that you won’t use anymore.
USE A FOLDER: Use a folder to file all your documents, budgets, receipts, and compendiums related to your move.
CANCEL SERVICES: Contact all companies that provide a monthly service for you and schedule the cancellation of their services after your moving date. This includes phone, Internet, electricity, gym, subscriptions to newspapers, magazines, etc.
INFORM PEOPLE OF INTEREST ABOUT YOUR MOVE: Tell family members, friends, neighbors, and colleagues about your move, giving them your new address and contact information.
DOCUMENTATION: Arrange and organize all of the necessary documentation for your move and life in the new country.
MEDICAL RECORDS: Contact your doctors, dentists, and veterinarians to obtain medical records.
OLD FRIENDS: Be sure to have all the contact numbers and addresses of your friends and family.
FOOD AND GROCERIES: Plan and purchase the minimum necessary of food, cleaning supplies, and others. Control it so that there are minimum leftovers on the moving day.
CHILDREN’S SCHOOL: Request the school records of your children and translate them (if necessary) to the language of the country you’re moving to.
TRIP ARRANGEMENTS: Make your personal arrangements for your trip (flights, hotel, car rental, etc.)
INSURANCE: Plan the cancellation of insurances that you will no longer use for after your move. Check if your insurances can be transferred.
FLAMMABLE ITENS: Dispose of toxic and flammable items, which won’t be moved.
ITEMS TO TAKE WITH YOU: Set apart the necessary items to take with you: checkbooks, cash or travelers checks, medication, toiletries, items for infant or child care, toys for the children, and your move folder.
SOMEONE TO LOOK AFTER THE CHILDREN: Hire or arrange someone to look after the children on the moving day, so that you can focus on the moving process.
SPECIAL BOXES: Set apart the items that you will first need in your new house. Instruct the packers to put them in separate boxes, tagging them with “Open first”.
BILLS: Pay all of your pending bills. Make sure to provide an address to receive the receipts.
PACKING: The packers will arrive to pack your furniture and goods.
REFRIGERATOR: Empty and defrost your refrigerator and freezer. Clean them and leave them open to ventilate.
VALUABLE ITEMS: Set apart valuable items to take with you, such as jewelry, important documents, essential computer files, pictures of great sentimental value, etc.
